THE
GUARANTEE:
Your Hat is guaranteed for life (yours, mine or its) not
to wear out or fall apart. We're delighted to think that yours may be passed on
to the next generation!
HAT INSURANCE?
It's also
insured against loss. If you do lose it, or the family dog destroys it, we'll
replace it within two years of the purchase date at half the current catalogue
price, through our mail-order department. We always try to meet our clients
at least half way!
With your Hat, you'll be provided with "The
Straight-Shooter's Statement of Loss of a Tilley Hat" insurance policy. Again,
the insurance is for two years, all perils, 50% deductible, and is not issued by
Lloyds.
THE STYLE OF THE HAT:
The downward slope of
the brim, both front and back, is intentional: the slope protects your forehead
and the back of your neck from wind and snow as much as possible. The slope
looks rather dashing, doesn't it?
THE CLOTH:
For material, we selected the same time-proven fabric that you
probably would have: an excellent, soft, warm, wool, woven for us in Montreal.
They know cold and snow in Montreal. Fashion too! Although the Winter
Hats may not shrink if you machine-wash them, don't take a chance: have them
dry-cleaned.
To make the Winter Hat rain and stain repellent, we've
coated the wool. To make the interior as comfy as possible, we selected a
strong, long-lasting, soft polyester. It's 'peached' to make it even softer, and
to help it trap your body's heat.
The sweatband is made of comfortable,
durable Hydrofil®, which absorbs sweat and wicks it away from your
forehead so it can evaporate quickly.
FOR HEAT AND HARD KNOCKS:
Inside the secret pocket in the crown of the Hat is a
thin layer of closed-cell insulating foam. Heat rises, and the foam stores some
of it. This dense foam also softens accidental blows to the noggin. From time
to time people tell us how the peculiar qualities of their Tilley Hats have
probably saved their lives!
FOR YOUR CONSTANT COMFORT:
Inside the Hat, you'll see at the back a removable
Size-Equalization Device held in by Velcro®. Its purpose is to permit
you to maintain the same comfortable size regardless of the flaps being up or
down.
A FOREHEAD WARMER?
Some years ago, I went out
for a walk on a cold, windy winter's day. The wind chill was memorable. After a
short while my forehead was so painfully cold that I had to retreat home.
Remembering the admonition that 'there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad
gear,' I decided that a forehead warmer was necessary. That's why it's there,
and I find I use it, and the ear flaps, fairly often.
DON'T LOSE
YOUR HAT
The new usually invisible 'tether' keeps you from losing
your hat in strong winds. (Click "View More Images" to see how the tether
works.) The tether is a hidden adjustable strap that fits comfortably on the
forehead to hold the hat in place.
OWNER'S MANUAL:

SECRET POCKET:
Inside the crown is a good-sized pocket sealed with Velcro®. In
it, carry your I.D., hotel key, $10 bill (in your case, a 20), plus a quarter
for an emergency phone call.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD:
As mentioned above, a Tilley Hat fits lower and more comfortably
than other hats. The lower it sits, the larger at that point is one's head
circumference. To find your Tilley size, simply measure around your head,
just above the eyebrows. Tell us this measurement. We'll take it from
there.
If you already know your regular hat size, please ask for one
size larger when you order your Tilley. For instance, if you're sure you're a 7
1/4‚ order a 7 3/8. We've designed it so you can always make it smaller, but
not bigger!
